Regular season winding down for local volleyball teams
The regular season is winding down for local volleyball teams with the postseason right around the corner. In Classes 4A and 3A, teams are gearing up for a run through the playoffs while others prepare for the offseason. The last slate of regular-season games will all begin at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
In Class 4A, both the Paris Lady Wildcats and North Lamar Pantherettes clinched postseason spots. The teams split their two meetings against one another, so postseason positioning is paramount. The Lady ’Cats are coming off a five-set win at North Lamar. Now, Paris will play at Pleasant Grove, which defeated Paris in Wildcat Gymnasium in four sets earlier this year. Meanwhile, the Pantherettes will host a team they previously swept on the road in Pittsburg.
As for Class 3A, the Chisum Lady Mustangs will miss the playoffs for the first time in four seasons. Chisum will host Commerce in its regular-season finale. The Lady Tigers clinched the fourth seed in the district.
The Prairiland Lady Patriots will also take the court with high stakes. Prairiland and Emory Rains are tied atop the district having defeated each other one time. Now, the teams will compete in a rubber match for sole possession of the district title at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Sulphur Springs Middle School gymnasium. For more sports coverage, click here.
