Pantherettes remain perfect with 44-29 win over Greenville
On Tuesday in Greenville, the North Lamar Pantherettes continued their perfect start to the 2020-21 basketball season by scoring a 44-29 win over the Greenville Lady Lions. The Pantherettes (6-0) clamped down defensively in the first half. Each player on the court for North Lamar channeled their inner bear traps by allowing just seven first-half points from Greenville, including a single point in the second quarter.
North Lamar led the Lady Lions 22-7 at halftime as a result. Even though the Lady Lions had more offensive success in the second half with 11 points in both the third and fourth quarters, the Pantherettes matched Greenville’s point total with 22 points of their own during that stretch.
Although Greenville boasted a physical defense of its own, junior post Hutton Pointer could not be stopped down low. She scored a game-high 15 points using her length and quickness to capitalize at the basket. Sophomore guard Maddie Walters provided an extra scoring punch for the offense as she reached double figures with 10 points.
Junior guard Mylee Nottingham chipped in with 6 points, while junior post Sloane Hill added 4 points and a solid defensive presence in the paint. Cydnie Malone and Hannah Kent registered 4 points and 3 points, respectively, while Dani Blount had 2 points.
The Pantherettes will play again at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Chisum. For more sports coverage, click here.
