Pantherettes hold off Caddo Mills in season-opening win
On Saturday, the North Lamar Pantherettes basketball team started its season with an impressive victory. North Lamar traveled to Caddo Mills High School, led by as many as 18 points, and held off a late rally from the Lady Foxes to secure a 46-42 win.
The Pantherettes built a 23-19 lead at halftime, and a dominant third quarter allowed North Lamar to stretch its lead to double figures at 35-24. North Lamar held its double-digit lead into the fourth quarter, and a late surge from the Lady Foxes was not enough to thwart the Pantherettes’ winning efforts in their first game of the season.
Sophomore guard Cydnie Malone impressed in the win. She posted a game-high 17 points, including nine points in the first quarter. Junior post Hutton Pointer also chipped in with 9 points, while junior guard Mylee Nottingham and sophomore guard Maddie Walters each added 4 points. Macy Richardson and Hannah Kent chipped in with 3 points apiece, while Dani Blount, Lauren Dority, and Logan Dority each contributed 2 points. Sophomore guards Abigail Roach and McKaelen Reynolds were the high scorers for Caddo Mills with 11 points and 10 points, respectively.
The Pantherettes will play again at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at home against Clarksville. For more sports coverage, click here.
