Mustangs hammer Sam Rayburn 77-19 on home court
After celebrating during the holidays, the Chisum Mustangs basketball team returned to the hardwood and quickly got back into the win column. The Mustangs (12-1) started out fast and continued to roll at home against Sam Rayburn. On Monday, Chisum earned the win by a final score of 77-19.
The Mustangs went off for 21 points in the first quarter and, although the pace slowed for Chisum with eight second-half points, the home team held a 29-4 lead at intermission. After halftime, the Mustangs ramped up the intensity for a 48-point second half and cruised to the 58-point victory.
Ashton Fleming led Chisum in the win with a game-high 18 points, just one point fewer than Sam Rayburn had as a team. Furthermore, Fleming hit four of his team’s nine 3-pointers. Junior guard Evan Wood scored 16 points for the Mustangs while Worm Price had 14 points. Espn Blyton added 9 points off three 3-pointers, while Levi Weems recorded 7 points. Keaston Lawrence finished with 6 points while Jett Petkus ended the game with 4 points.
