
Football official collapses during nearby game from apparent heart attack
During a football game in Mount Pleasant on Friday night, an official collapsed onto the field of play. The scare took place in Mount Pleasant as the Class 3A DeKalb Bears played against defending state runners up Paul Pewitt. In the end, the Brahmas upended the Bears 35-6.
In the midst of the action, head official Jimmy Brown collapsed from an apparent heart attack. However, DeKalb ISD staff members immediately responded to Brown’s condition with an automated external defibrillator (AED) device, according to district officials.
DeKalb ISD representatives said the device is taken to every single football game and practice, and it likely saved Brown’s life. Brown remains hospitalized but is in stable condition. For more sports coverage, click here.
