Chisum scorches nets in 95-33 rout over Cooper
On Friday night, the Chisum Mustangs made a loud statement on their home court. Chisum’s seventh win of the season came against a former district rival in the Cooper Bulldogs. Quality guard play and strong defense carried the Mustangs past the Bulldogs to a convincing 95-33 win at home.
Chisum started out red hot in the early going. After the first-quarter horn sounded, the Mustangs held an astounding 27-point lead over the visiting Bulldogs after a 32-point explosion. The Mustangs continued to sizzle the nets with an 18-point second quarter and an overwhelming 50-10 halftime lead. Chisum rained in eight of its 11 total 3-pointers in the first half.
The runaway effort continued in the second half as Chisum kept pace on both ends of the court with 45 second-half points against 13 total points for Cooper during the final two quarters in Mustang Gymnasium.
Keaston Lawrence led Chisum with 23 points while Evan Wood added 22 points. Worm Price scored 21 points and Espn Blyton contributed 8 points. Levi Weems tossed in 6 points while Rylan Boutwell, Brayden Brown, and Derek McCarty each finished with 4 points. Freshman guard Markel Smith led the Bulldogs with 9 points.
Chisum (8-1) won again on Saturday by virtue of a 52-40 victory at Blue Ridge. Lawrence led the Mustangs with 24 points while Blyton scored 12 points. Chisum will take the court again at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Wolfe City. For more sports coverage, click here.
