Wildcats open playoff run, Mustangs, Rebels, and Warriors on to Area
Basketball teams in and near the community of Paris are marching through the postseason on the boys side. Four local teams, the Paris Wildcats, Chisum Mustangs, Rivercrest Rebels, and Honey Grove Warriors are all competing in playoff action tonight and tomorrow.
In Class 4A, the Paris Wildcats were champions of District 15-4A and will begin their playoff push tonight at Emory Rains High School in the Bi-District round. There, the Wildcats will play as the visitors as they take on Spring Hill at 7 p.m.
In Class 3A, the Chisum Mustangs (18-8, 6-6) avenged a regular-season loss to the Bells Panthers with a thrilling 59-48 victory over the Panthers in the Bi-District round this past Saturday at 2 p.m. at Honey Grove High School. Now, the Mustangs advance to the Area Round and will square off against Whitesboro at 7:30 p.m. at Bonham High School.
Finally, two familiar foes will square off in an Area-Round clash at Paris High School. The impressive state-ranked Rivercrest Rebels (21-2, 11-2) look to continue their dominant year on the court under the direction of head coach Quincy English.
However, the Honey Grove Warriors, a four-seed, stunned district-champion Alvord 46-39 in the Bi-District round with their first-year head coach Homer Garner, who has years of local coaching experience. Now, the successful coaches and their teams will clash at either 7 or 8 p.m. Tuesday night in Wildcat Gymnasium. For more sports coverage, click here.
