Several local girls basketball teams set to begin playoff journeys
After a taxing yet fast-paced season, five local girls basketball teams remain and will now advance to the postseason. The North Lamar Pantherettes, Prairiland Lady Patriots, Cooper Dogettes, Detroit Lady Eagles, and the Rivercrest Lady Rebels finished in the top four of their own district standings and will compete in their respective Bi-District matchups on Thursday night.
The Pantherettes got off to a torrid start to the season by winning 10 of their first 11 games. Once things stiffened up in the district slate, North Lamar adjusted, regrouped, and clinched the third seed of District 15-4A, Region II. With that, the Pantherettes will face Bullard in the first round with a time and location to be announced.
Meanwhile, three teams will compete in Bi-District-action at Paris High School on Thursday night. The first matchup will tip-off at 6 p.m. featuring the Class 3A Prairiland Lady Patriots facing the Pottsboro Lady Cardinals. The third-seeded Lady Patriots ousted Pottsboro in the Bi-District round of the playoffs during volleyball season and will try to do the same on the hardwood.
The next Bi-District game in Wildcat Gymnasium will begin at 8 p.m. as Class 2A teams in the Cooper Dogettes and Detroit Lady Eagles. Finally, the Rivercrest Lady Rebels made the postseason for the seventh year in a row and will square off against Alba-Golden at 7:30 p.m. at Sulphur Springs High School.
