Mustangs, Rebels, Wildcats, and Lady Hornets all marching on through playoffs
There are four local teams who are still in the mix of the 2021 UIL Basketball Playoffs. On the boys’ side, the Chisum Mustangs, Rivercrest Rebels, and Paris Wildcats are all competing in the Regional Quarterfinals, while the lone girls’ team remaining, the No. 1 Dodd City Lady Hornets, will play in the Regional Semifinals.
After defeating Sulphur Bluff 96-20 in the Regional Quarterfinals at Paris High School earlier this week, Class 1A’s top-ranked Lady Hornets (28-0, 10-0) will face the Huckabay Lady Indians (18-2, 10-0) at 7 p.m. tonight at Bridgeport High School in the Regional Semifinals. Dodd City is trying to return to the State Tournament for the fourth time in the last five seasons.
On the boys’ side, the No. 7 Rivercrest Rebels reached the third round for the second year in a row in Class 2A following big wins over Cooper and Honey Grove in the previous two playoff rounds. Now, the Rebels will face the Celeste Blue Devils at 7 p.m. tonight at Greenville High School.
On Saturday, both the No. 17 Paris Wildcats of Class 4A and the Class 3A Chisum Mustangs will be in third-round action. The Wildcats will compete against the No. 24-ranked Lindale Eagles in a top-25 matchup at 2 p.m. at Sulphur Springs High School. Meanwhile, the fourth-seeded Mustangs will face the fellow fourth-seeded Whitewright Tigers at 7 p.m. Saturday at Anna High School. For more sports coverage, click here.
