Mustangs, Lady Hornets gear up for more pivotal postseason action
The Chisum Mustangs and Dodd City Lady Hornets are still in the thick of the championship chase in this year’s UIL Basketball Playoffs. Previously, two local titans fell as the No. 17 Paris Wildcats were eliminated in the third round 59-54 by the No. 24-ranked Lindale Eagles while the No. 6 Rivercrest Rebels were ousted 64-61 in the fourth round to the Cisco Loboes.
The Mustangs (20-8, 6-6) will face arguably the toughest opponent of the season in the Regional Semifinals. With that, Chisum will compete against the No. 7 Tatum Eagles (22-3, 10-0) as the lone fourth-seeded team standing in the state of Texas out of all classifications. Chisum bounced the Whitewright Tigers 59-49 to record its first third-round playoff game in 40 years and will now square off against the Eagles at Athens High School.
On the girls’ side, No. 2-ranked Dodd City (30-0, 10-0) recently punched its fourth ticket to State in the last five seasons after recording a 48-27 win over Saltillo in the Regional Final. Now, the Lady Hornets will play against the No. 3 Neches Lady Tigers (19-3, 12-0) in the State Semifinals at Lindale High School.
