Local volleyball teams resume district play
As sports roll onward amidst uncertain times, local volleyball teams resume district play. In Class 3A, local teams will begin the second half of their district slates on the road. Meanwhile, Class 4A teams in the area will begin their third district games on their home courts.
Following a convincing win at Pittsburg, the defending district champion Paris Lady ’Cats play again in another district match. The Lady ‘Cats responded to a five-set home loss to Gilmer with a dominant sweep at Pittsburg. Paris sits at 1-1 in district play but looks to move above the .500 mark at 6 p.m. tonight against Liberty-Eylau.
Meanwhile, the North Lamar Pantherettes continue their season after a brief hiatus regarding COVID-19 precautions. The Pantherettes split games against Liberty-Eylau and Gilmer. North Lamar was on the delivering end of a sweep at L-E, but on the receiving end at home against Gilmer. North Lamar will now host a tough Pleasant Grove squad tonight at 6 p.m.
The Prairiland Lady Patriots will also be in action after an impressive undefeated first half of their district schedule. The district-leading Lady Patriots hold a 6-0 record in their district. The Lady Pats recorded impressive wins at both Edgewood and Emory Rains along the way. Along with that, Prairiland has only dropped three sets in their six district matches. Prairiland will play at 6 p.m. tonight at Lone Oak before finishing out their regular season in their home gym.
In other district volleyball action, the Chisum Lady Mustangs look to build off of a solid performance in a home loss to Prairiland. The Lady Mustangs aim to win their second district match at 6 p.m. tonight at Commerce. Chisum previously recorded a victory in straight sets at Lone Oak to get in the district win column.
