Local high school football teams prepare for Area matchups
Four local teams will continue their respective seasons as they compete in the 2020 UIL High School Football Playoffs bracket. During this COVID-obscured season, the Paris Wildcats, Cooper Bulldogs, Rivercrest Rebels, and Leonard Tigers will each see the field Friday night.
The Paris Wildcats, the lone local Class 4A postseason representatives, face a familiar foe in their own backyard. During their Bi-District bout, the Wildcats dismantled Dallas Lincoln 56-26 in Dallas. In Paris’ Area Round matchup, the No. 6-ranked Midlothian Heritage Jaguars will try to avenge an early 28-14 home loss they suffered against the Wildcats. At 7:30 p.m. Friday night, the Wildcats will host the Jaguars at Wildcat Stadium for the right to advance to the Regional Quarterfinals.
In Class 3A, the Leonard Tigers football team shocked district champion Palmer to punch their ticket to the second round of the postseason. Up next for Leonard is a game at 7 p.m. Friday against the City View Mustangs, which will take place at Ram Stadium in Mineral Wells.
Both the Cooper Bulldogs and Rivercrest Rebels of District 6-2A, Division I of Region II remain in the postseason hunt. The Bulldogs, who defeated Trenton 32-12 in the Bi-District Round, will compete against the Bosqueville Bulldogs at 7 p.m. Friday at Eagle Stadium in Allen. The Rebels, who bested Collinsville 20-14 in the first round, will take on the No. 7 Crawford Pirates at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Gopher Warrior Bowl in Grand Prairie.
