Local boys ballers preparing for Bi-District bouts
On the hardwood, local boys high school basketball teams will gear up for their respective postseason runs following a delay from recent inclement weather. The Paris Wildcats, Chisum Mustangs, Rivercrest Rebels, and Cooper Bulldogs will play in their respective Bi-District Round playoff games over the coming weekend.
After securing another district-championship season, the Wildcats will open up their postseason push with a game against Tyler Chapel Hill at 7 p.m. Friday at Mt. Vernon High School. The Wildcats are aiming for their fifth trip in six years to the Regional Tournament in Commerce.
Meanwhile, the Chisum Mustangs are back in the playoffs under the direction of head coach Brian Temple and will face the Bells Panthers at 8 p.m. Friday at Greenville High School. These teams faced each other in the regular season at Chisum High School, where the Panthers recorded a 56-45 victory.
The Rivercrest Rebels have been a mainstay in the top-10 State rankings in Class 2A under the guidance of head coach Quincy English, who has continued to resurrect the sixth-ranked Rebels’ basketball program. Last season, Rivercrest ousted a ranked Wolfe City squad in overtime and nearly toppled then-No. 1 Martin’s Mill in the third round. This year, the Rebels will open their playoff run at 4 p.m. Saturday at Prairiland High School against the Cooper Bulldogs. For more sports coverage, click here.
