Ector High School sending two cross country runners to regionals
Ector High School varsity cross country runners Riley Evans and Jael Grijalva punched their tickets to the upcoming Regional Meet in Class 1A, Region III. Evans, a senior, took home ninth place, while Grijalva, a junior, finished closely behind in 10th place. Both runners secured a trip to regionals after their recent success Area Meet at Miller Grove High School on Wednesday.
Seeing their progress from the first day of practice, the girls’ head coach has watched both runners work hard and earn their success.
“They have both put in all the work I’ve asked them to do,” said Jacob McMinn, Ector High School head cross country coach. “They’ve both showed up early, worked out the entire time each day, and they have run countless miles to make all of this possible. Riley has worked her butt off to get in as much work as she can as a senior. They’ve both done really well in maximizing everything they’ve accomplished even with fewer meets to run in this year.”
Moving forward, McMinn anticipates more hard work and another great showing from his girls at their next meet.
“I definitely expect to see them work just as hard now, if not harder,” McMinn said. “They are very motivated to move past regionals, and hopefully we can get that done for them.”
Regionals will begin on Monday, Nov. 9 at the UT-Arlington Stadium as both Lady Eagle cross country runners aim to advance to the state meet. For more sports coverage, click here.
