Prairiland takes care of business in Bi-District round with sweep over Pottsboro

Following a disappointing loss to Emory Rains in a district-title tiebreaker match, the Prairiland Lady Patriots had to move forward with their postseason run. The Lady Patriots got their 2020 postseason off to a great start with a convincing Bi-District win over Pottsboro.

Prairiland ousted the Lady Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Princeton High School auxiliary gymnasium in straight sets. The Lady Pats scored the win by a final score of 25-14, 25-17, and 25-22.

After getting into a good early rhythm in the first set, Pottsboro increased its resistance in the final two sets of the match. However, the Lady Cardinals could not slow down Prairiland’s consistent front-line game and the back row complimented the team’s defensive prowess as well.

After the win, Prairiland has now advanced at least one round in the postseason in four consecutive seasons. Last season, the Lady Patriots reached the Regional Tournament for the first time since 2004.

Senior middles T.J. Folse and Reese Parris paced Prairiland in the victory. Folse recorded 12 kills, 3 blocks, and 1 ace. Parris registered 11 kills, 1 block, and 2 aces. Junior middle Abi Farmer was impactful with 6 kills, 7 digs, and 3 blocks. Junior outside hitter Ali Sessums compiled 6 kills, 15 digs, and 2 aces.

Sophomore setters Chloe Raley and Hanna Cope combined for 33 assists. Raley also added 2 kills, 1 ace, and 7 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Kyndal Yaross had 2 kills and 11 digs, while libero Lanna Rinney added 7 digs.

The Lady Patriots move on to the Area Round as the lone local representative in postseason play. After Paris and North Lamar fell to Bullard and Lindale in the first round, respectively, Prairiland emerged as the only Area-round qualifier.

With that, the Lady Pats will try to reach the Regional Quarterfinals for the second year in a row. In order to accomplish this, Prairiland must get past Callisburg at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bells High School. For more sports coverage, click here.
