
Hicks collects 100th career win as Bonham stops district skid with 47-45 win at Gunter
After an 11-0 start, the Bonham Purple Warriors basketball team lost five of their last six games, all in district play. On Friday night, the Purple Warriors (13-5, 3-5) recorded a needed 47-45 win at the Gunter Tigers that also marked head coach Eric Hicks’ 100th career win as a head basketball coach.
Bonham built and nursed a slim lead throughout the contest, which came down to the final possession. The Purple Warriors recorded the stop they needed to pull within a game and a half of the district’s final playoff spot.
Mason Rodriguez led Bonham with 11 points while senior guard Tanner Reaves added 9 points. Avery Coker scored 8 points for the Purple Warriors and Michael Crosby recorded 7 points. Jerry Arrey chipped in with 6 points, Cam Bush had 4 points, and Trystan Mallory ended the game with 2 points.
The Purple Warriors will play again at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at home against the Howe Bulldogs. For more sports coverage, click here.
