Gridiron action sizzles with more district showdowns
There are three weeks remaining in this year’s regular-season of UIL high school football. Several local teams will kick off at 7:30 tonight as they continue to navigate through their respective district schedules with plenty of postseason implications.
The No. 10-ranked Paris Wildcats have righted the ship nicely since their COVID-19 hiatus. Paris was forced to forfeit district contests against Melissa and Anna as a result, but the Wildcats responded nicely with blowout wins over Ranchview and Terrell. Now, Paris will face a stiffer test at Kaufman.
Meanwhile, the North Lamar Panthers will not advance to the playoffs but are still fighting hard for their first win of the season. North Lamar is coming off a tough loss to Pleasant Grove in Texarkana but now has a winning opportunity at home against Pittsburg.
The Chisum Mustangs, currently seeded fourth in District 10-3A, Region III, have their bye week ahead of a 7:30 p.m. home game against DeKalb on Friday, Oct. 30.
However, Chisum’s district rival Prairiland will compete on its home field tonight. Following a 3-1 start to the season, the Patriots have not won a district game, but Prairiland will have a prime opportunity when they host winless Redwater. For more sports coverage, click here.
