Wildcats soccer team reaches top spot in Class 4A State rankings
The Paris Wildcats soccer team, under the guidance of third-year head coach Clint Cobb, is continuing and building on its rich tradition of success in a big way. After completing a strong 7-1 slate of pre-district games, the Wildcats found themselves at number one in the Class 4A State rankings ahead of their upcoming district opener.
During their dominant eight-game run, the No. 1 Wildcats’ only loss came to Class 5A Sulphur Springs in tournament play by a final score of 3-1. In contrast to its lone defeat, Paris has outscored its opponents 39-2 in its seven wins this season, which included five shutout performances. Furthermore, Paris’ average margin of victory is more than a five-goal differential per game.
Paris’ signature victory came recently in a 1-0 win in tournament action over No. 2 Kilgore, who ousted Paris from the postseason two seasons ago. The Wildcats, who are looking to become seven-time defending district champions, will open district play at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Pleasant Grove Hawks. For more sports coverage, click here.
