Local basketball teams gear up for second half of district schedule
High school basketball teams in the Red River Valley and Northeast Texas region are gearing up for the second half of district play with more key matchups on Friday night. With the postseason less than a month away, both boys and girls local varsity squads are preparing for the stretch run of their respective playoff pushes.
On the boy’s side, the Paris Wildcats of Class 4A will travel to Texarkana to face the Pleasant Grove Hawks at 7 p.m. Meanwhile, the North Lamar Panthers look to defend their home court and bounce back from a home loss to the Wildcats as they host Pittsburg at 7 p.m.
In Class 3A, both the Chisum Mustangs and Prairiland Patriots will tip-off at 6:15 p.m. The Mustangs look to get back into the win column on the road against Grand Saline while the Patriots seek a victory at home against Emory Rains. The Bonham Purple Warriors will attempt to snap a five-game losing skid following an 11-0 start to the season with a contest at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Gunter Tigers.
In Class 2A, the No. 4 Rivercrest Rebels will continue their impressive season under the guidance of head coach Quincy English at 7:30 p.m. tonight at James Bowie. The Rebels (15-1, 7-1) have only one loss (60-56, OT) to their district rival and No. 3-ranked McLeod Longhorns on the season.
Each of the local girl’s games will tip-off at 6 p.m. tonight. The Paris Lady Wildcats, who are coming off an impressive 60-55 home win over the North Lamar Pantherettes, will try to keep the momentum going on the road against Pleasant Grove. Meanwhile, the Pantherettes seek a bounce-back win at Pittsburg.
In other RRV girls basketball action, the Lady Mustangs will go for the win at home against Grand Saline while the Lady Patriots aim to avenge a 45-40 home loss to Emory Rains from a month ago tonight in Emory. For more sports coverage, click here.
