Britney’s Steppin’ Out Dance Studio collects numerous awards in weekend dance competition

Over the weekend, local girls 4 to 14 years of age put their dancing skills to the test in the Edge Talent Competition, which was held this past Saturday and Sunday in Texarkana. In 31 total dances, Britney’s Steppin’ Out Dance Studio was represented well by its six teams across the board of awards in both group- and solo-style performances along with dance and pom teams.

The Paris-based dance studio received several top honors despite facing off against other groups with larger numbers, but the way the girls competed is what stood out most to the local studio’s owner.

“We can win all the awards, judges’ choice, overalls, and top studio awards, but no award means more to us than the ‘Sportsmanship’ award,” said Britney Drake, the studio’s Owner and Artistic Director. “This award was given to our entire studio which is our most accomplished award! The award was given to one studio who shows love, support, and professionalism to everyone backstage and at the competition. I love this award more than anything because it shows what we’re all about at BSODS — Family, Love, and Passion. I have the best dance parents and dancers anyone could ask for, we truly are family and are so blessed.”

The studio’s top honors included: Overall Costume Award for Big Hair Don’t Care by the Trolls/Glory Girls Team; Overall Choreography Award for Make It Rain by the Chain Breakers Team; the Sportsmanship Award for the entire studio; and Edge Award Competitive Level: 3rd Highest Scoring Dance out of the entire competition for Make It Rain by the Chain Breakers Team.

Drake added that the successful weekend was “exactly what our dance family needed” after missing out on competitions last year due to the coronavirus. See below for the full list of local award winners.

Britney’s Steppin’ Out Dance Studio is a dance studio, performance and event venue, and dance school located at 3354 NE Loop 286 in Paris. The studio is closed on Saturdays and Sundays but operates Monday through Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. each day.
