Big volleyball matches on deck for local rivals
The local hardwood is heating up with big district games set for the center stage tonight. Both in Class 4A and 3A, big volleyball matches headline the district action as the regular season approaches its end.
Class 4A volleyball
The North Lamar Pantherettes look to sweep the season series of their crosstown rival Paris Lady Wildcats at 6 p.m. tonight. The Pantherettes defeated Paris in straight sets earlier this season at Wildcat Gymnasium. Since then, the Pantherettes have swept matches against Pittsburg and Liberty-Eylau. Also, North Lamar fell at Gilmer in five sets and at Pleasant Grove in straight sets.
On the other hand, the Lady ’Cats dropped matches against Pleasant Grove and at Gilmer in four sets apiece. After that, Paris defeated both Liberty-Eylau and Pittsburg in three sets. Now, the teams enter this pivotal matchup at North Lamar High School. North Lamar holds a 3-4 record in the district while Paris has a 4-4 mark.
Class 3A volleyball
In Class 3A action, the Prairiland Lady Patriots host their rival Chisum Lady Mustangs on Prairiland’s senior night. The Lady Patriots hold a 10-1 record in the district while the Lady Mustangs earned their third district win over Lone Oak on Friday.
The last time these teams matched up in Mustang Gymnasium, Prairiland emerged victorious after three sets. Although the match ended in a sweep for the Lady Patriots, Chisum held its own in the first two sets. The Lady Mustangs kept the deficit at single digits in each of the first two sets and were competitive throughout the match. Now, Chisum must attempt to spoil Prairiland’s senior night with a win to keep its playoff hopes alive. For more sports coverage, click here.
