Area football and volleyball teams prepare for more district games

Area football and volleyball teams will continue their district schedules tonight. All area football and volleyball teams have completed their non-district schedules. Each local varsity volleyball game will begin at 4:30 p.m. On the gridiron, all games will kick off at 7:30 p.m.

The Paris Wildcats are still recovering from recent and positive COVID-19 cases. The Wildcats were supposed to play in Melissa in a top-10 matchup tonight against the Cardinals. However, Paris had to withdraw from that game along with their following district game against Anna. Now, the Wildcats are 0-2 in the district standings because of the controversial effects of the global pandemic.

North Lamar is idle tonight ahead of their homecoming game next week against Liberty-Eylau. The Panthers’ homecoming game will double as their district opener in Class 4A, Division II action. In Class 3A, both the Chisum Mustangs and Prairiland Patriots are scheduled to play against more district opponents. Chisum will compete at Redwater after its 34-19 homecoming win over Prairiland. Meanwhile, the Patriots aim to bounce back at home against DeKalb.

Several volleyball teams to take the court

On the volleyball court, the Paris Lady Wildcats will host their crosstown rival North Lamar Pantherettes. The Lady ’Cats are coming off a dominant home win over Liberty-Eylau. On the other hand, the Pantherettes suffered a close three-set loss at home against Pleasant Grove. Paris defeated North Lamar twice last year. Last season, the Lady ‘Cats edged North Lamar in five sets as the visitors. Then, Paris won the rematch at home in four sets.

The Prairiland Lady Patriots will also be in action. Prairiland looks to move to 8-0 in district play at home against Edgewood. In the teams’ last matchup, Prairiland took down Edgewood in four sets. The Chisum Lady Mustangs will also be in action tonight. The Lady Mustangs look to bounce back from a disappointing three-set loss at Commerce. With that, Chisum will play at home against Emory Rains. For more sports coverage, click here.
